    Travel to the first day of the summit (Monday 10 October) may see some disruption due to the Columbus Day Parade. The parade will close 5th Avenue. 6th, 7th and 8th Avenues run between the summit hotel and campus and will be unaffected.

    Delegates staying at or near the official summit hotel can collect their Metro Cards on the third floor of the hotel.

    Covid-19 requirements

    All delegates are required to have received a full set of Covid-19 vaccinations as well as a booster dose if eligible (based on CDC eligibility criteria with an FDA-authorised or WHO-listed vaccine.

    Vaccination documentation must be uploaded to the NYU system to be reviewed before the summit.

    Participants may request an exemption from these requirements for valid medical or religious reasons. Those requesting medical or religious exemption requests must submit their exemption requests along with a negative PCR test result within 72 hours prior to accessing NYU’s campus.


     

    Visas

    Some delegates may require a visa to enter the US. Please note that it can take several weeks to process a visa application so early application is recommended.


     


    THE and NYU can provide letters of invitation for registered delegates when requested, please email a photo/scan of your passport to events@timeshighereducation.com once you have registered.

    We cannot accept any responsibility for visa applications. Where a delegate is unable to attend because of failure to obtain a visa on time, the normal cancellation policy for the registration fee will apply.

    We recommend having travel insurance for the duration of your visit to the US. Please contact your travel agent for further details.

    Accommodation

    Delegates are responsible for reserving and covering the cost of accommodation for the duration of their stay.

    The official event hotel is the New York Marriott Marquis. Below you will find a map below through which you can easily browse for hotels and private accommodation if you do not wish to stay at the official hotel. You can hover over an accommodation to view travel times and distances to NYU.

    New York Marriott Marquis

    The official event hotel is the New York Marriott Marquis, located at 1535 Broadway in the heart of Times Square.

    The newly renovated hotel is an iconic fixture of Times Square and brilliantly captures the vibrant energy and spirit of Manhattan. Facilities include spacious rooms, complimentary wi-fi and a 24-hour fitness centre.


     

    Getting there

    Delegates are responsible for their travel arrangements and travel costs to and from New York.

    Plane

    Three major airports serve the New York City area:

    • John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in Queens
    • LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in Queens
    • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in Newark

    Train

    New York City is also easily reached by Amtrak rail. Amtrak arrives and departs from Penn Station's Moynihan Train Hall.

    Taxi

    Taxis and ride-share options are available at all three airports as well as at Penn Station to provide easy transport to hotels.

    Getting around

    New York City’s subway provides easy access to the summit’s main venues, with several subway stops within a few minute's walking distance to NYU’s campus.

    The closest subway stop is West 4th Street-Washington Square on the A, B, C, D, E, F and M lines.

    Other nearby stops include:

    • 8th Street and Broadway on the R and W lines
    • Christopher Street (at Seventh Avenue South) on the 1 line
    • Bleecker Street (near Broadway) on the 6 line


    The subway fare is $2.75 per ride. You can purchase a MetroCard at the ticketing machines located at most subway entrances. You will also be provided with a MetroCard at check-in giving you free travel on the subway and buses.

    Taxis are generally available throughout most of Manhattan. Ride-share services such as Uber and Lyft can also be easily requested via their respective apps.

    Discover New York

    New York City, the most populous city in the US with over 8 million people, is at the centre of international finance, politics, entertainment and culture. It is one of the world’s major global cities with a virtually unrivalled collection of museums, galleries, performance venues, media outlets, international corporations and stock exchanges. The city is also home to the United Nations and all of its associated international missions.

    With over 40,000 students, NYU's campuses are spread throughout the city, from midtown Manhattan to the heart of Greenwich Village and even downtown Brooklyn.

    NYU's core location near Washington Square Park is in historic Greenwich Village. The epicentre of the city's 1960s counterculture movement plus home to generations of writers, musicians, artists and intellectuals, the tree-lined streets of Greenwich Village are now a hub of popular cafes, bars and restaurants. Jazz clubs and Off-Broadway Theaters can also be found amid the brownstones and NYU buildings.

    With access to several subway and bus lines, no neighbourhood or place of interest is out of reach.

    Statue of Liberty

    Gifted from the people of France to the people of the US in the late 1800s in celebration of American's new-found democracy and the abolition of slvery, the Statue of Liberty is New York City's most iconic monument.

     


    Empire State Building

    America's most famous piece of architecture and standing at 1,454ft tall, the Empire State held the title of the "world's tallest building" for nearly 40 years and is the ninth-tallest skyscraper in the US.

     


    The Guggenheim

    Originally the "Museum of Non-Objective Painting", the Guggenheim features special exhibitions throughout the year and is the permanent home of an icnresingly impressive collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, early modern and contemporary art.
