Greetings from United Arab Emirates University
Dear colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the THE University Impact Forum in which we will address the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) for clean water and sanitation.
Freshwater is essential for sustaining life on earth and is an invaluable natural resource for which there is no substitute. Access to clean water and sanitation is foundational for the development and prosperity of nations.
Many countries and universities have thus placed the efficient management of water resources and sanitation at the top of their agenda for research and innovation. This is particularly evident in countries in arid and semi-regions such as the United Arab Emirates.
The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) assumes an active role in the pursuit and achievement of all the SDGs. We support a suite of initiatives and research projects that make valuable contributions.
Under SDG 6, undergraduate and graduate students engage in national and international activities and competitions related to water conservation and sustainability. Our National Water and Energy Center conducts important translational and applied interdisciplinary research of direct relevance and provides consultation services to industry and the community.
The SDGs will be best achieved through partnerships and international collaboration as the availability of clean water and sanitation is a global problem in nature, yet we also recognise that solutions and their implementation must be contextualised to the local environment.
This THE University Impact Forum will discuss how academic institutions and research centres can work in support of both global and local initiatives related to SDG 6.
We look forward to your attendance at the forum. You can expect a warm welcome at UAEU!
