About Universitas Indonesia
Universitas Indonesia (UI) stands as an embodiment of modern academic ideals, characterised by its comprehensive approach, openness, cultural plurality, and unwavering commitment to humanistic values. With an unwavering dedication to global academic excellence, UI fervently pursues the tripartite mission of discovery, development, and dissemination of knowledge, both at regional and international scales.
Spanning 312 hectares in Depok and Salemba, the university proudly hosts 14 faculties, 1 vocational education programme and 2 schools. The academic milieu comprises a diverse body of 36,053 students, including 2,154 international scholars, all guided by a dedicated cohort of 2,388 educators.
To bolster the academic and research pursuits of its community, UI has invested in an array of state-of-the-art facilities. This includes research centres, extensive libraries, advanced laboratories and technologically equipped classrooms. Such infrastructural endowments are envisioned to cultivate global competitiveness among the faculty and students, inspiring them to embark on innovative ventures that resonate with societal needs.
Universitas Indonesia has the distinction of being the foremost institution in Indonesia in terms of intellectual property rights, with a burgeoning portfolio that adds over 1,000 intellectual properties annually. Collaborative endeavours with industrial partners ensure that these intellectual assets metamorphose into innovative products with tangible benefits.
UI is also unwaveringly dedicated to advancing the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its research, pedagogy, and community engagement. As evidenced by its recent ranking in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023, UI maintains its position among the global elite, with two of its SDGs—SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger)—holding top-five positions worldwide.
The university's contributions span multiple domains, from health, food and engineering to business, ICT and security. Noteworthy innovations encompass products like the EZ Trigona Propolis Extract, ALFLUKS NF20, KODC Dengue, COVENT-20 Ventilator, Flocked Swab HS-19, the UI Red and White Electric Bus, Secure HT-box, among others.
Recognising that innovation is contingent upon the calibre of its human resources, UI emphasizes broadening its educational horizons. This ethos has translated into initiatives like the Pre-University Program. This pioneering program leverages the principles of self-paced learning or Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), granting unrestricted access to a global audience. Such an inclusive educational model ensures that the illustrious education offered by UI transcends its campuses, reaching every corner of Indonesia and extending its influence globally.
