Greetings from HSE University

HSE University is pleased to welcome participants to the THE Young Universities Summit. For the first time in its history, the summit is being held in Russia and we are proud to have the honour of hosting the 2021 summit.

The key theme for this year’s summit is “local impact, global influence”. Over the course of several days, all summit participants will search for optimal ways in which young universities can make an impact on people’s lives and the environment, both at the local and global levels.

Collaboration and cooperation in a global world is one of our top priorities when it comes to the development of our university. As HSE University’s mission statement says: “We recognise ourselves as a member of the international academic community, and we consider international partnerships and cooperation among global universities to be key elements of our progress.”

In the Russian higher education system, where there are many institutions with centuries-long histories, HSE University is one of the youngest universities. However, since its inception less than 30 years ago, HSE University has become one of the leading institutions of higher learning not only in Russia but in the world, offering a full range of educational programmes spanning from secondary school studies to postgraduate and MBA degrees. We have also succeeded in taking top positions in global rankings. The university has grown from its first cohort of 150 students to a community of more than 40,000 learners.

We hope that this summit will contribute to the further improvement of education, the introduction of new technologies and increased accessibility of higher education to everyone around the world.

Since 2013, HSE has been a member of the Russian Academic Excellence Project 5-100, a highly selective government programme aimed at boosting the international competitiveness of Russian universities.
