Championing higher education as a source of trusted knowledge

    8–10 July 2025
    Belo Horizonte, Brazil

The THE Latin America Universities Summit 2025 will pave the way for institutional excellence through discussions on a sustainable and secure digital revolution, the journey towards COP 30 and strategies for driving regional economic growth.

Although the primary role of universities is as repositories of trusted knowledge, the intersection of academic pursuits and societal responsibilities presents us with challenges that must be addressed:

    • How can we strengthen academic collaboration with government, civil society and industry?
    • What strategies can increase research visibility and deepen internationalisation?
    • How can we achieve these goals while protecting the environment, upholding minority rights, promoting mental health on campus and fostering technological advancement in local communities?

Simultaneous translation into Portuguese will be available for all sessions

    Agenda themes

Leading a sustainable and secure digital revolution

With digital advancements accelerating rapidly, promoting accessible and regulated technology use is urgent. Higher education, industry, and government must collaborate to build resilient societies for the digital age. This requires ensuring equitable access, creating forward-looking regulatory frameworks, and expanding digital literacy to empower all members of society.

Charting the road to COP 30: Higher education for a sustainable future

The growing impacts of climate change threaten millions, highlighting the need for urgent action. Higher education institutions play a pivotal role in advancing the green transition by fostering innovation, developing skills, and shaping evidence-based policies. Additionally, they must must address climate anxiety and mental health challenges, particularly for marginalised communities.

Fostering innovation ecosystems to drive regional economic growth

Latin America’s shift toward decentralised tech innovation offers significant economic growth potential. By integrating academic research with technological development, and mobilising incubators, universities can drive innovation, job creation, and global competitiveness. Strengthening industry ties and fostering inclusivity will ensure equitable access, making innovation a catalyst for sustainable progress.
