Internet access
Within mainland China, access to internet sites (including all Google services, Twitter/X, Facebook, most mainstream media outlets and many more) is restricted. Delegates using an overseas SIM card with roaming activated will be able to access all sites freely. However, when using local wi-fi services, including on the SUSTech campus, delegates will find their access to the internet restricted unless using a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
Both free and paid commercial VPN services exist, and your institution may provide such a service to staff and students allowing off-campus access to university services.
If you require unobstructed internet access to all sites during your time in China, it is advisable to pre-install a VPN or to activate a hotspot on your mobile device for your other devices to connect to.
