About the University of Waterloo
Our history
In 1957, the University of Waterloo opened its doors to 74 engineering students with cooperative education as its cornerstone. Today, with 42,000+ students attending annually, Waterloo operates the largest cooperative programme in the world, connecting student talent with more than 7,500 employer partners across 125 countries.
Who we are
We are a leading global research-intensive university, renowned for entrepreneurship and innovation, offering co-op and work-integrated learning at scale with impact. We are made up of six faculties, 12 faculty-based schools, four affiliated and federated institutions, 25+ university and senate-approved research centres and institutes and a vibrant community of students, faculty and staff.
