This summit marks an important milestone in our collective pursuit of Asia’s rise – a transformative journey in science, technology and innovation.
We are truly delighted to collaborate with THE, an organisation that shares our vision and commitment to advancing education and fostering global partnerships. By organising this conference in Macao in alignment with the visionary goals of the Macau SAR government, THE aims to showcase the remarkable strength and potential of Macao higher education. Through this event, we invite the world to witness the recent achievements of our institutions and engage in meaningful exchanges provided by the excellent networking opportunities.
Our overarching vision is to emerge as a leading Asian university that excels in education and research innovation, while providing our students with a unique and transformative learning experience. We believe that partnerships and collaborations are crucial in achieving this vision, and we are committed to working hand-in-hand with esteemed institutions from around the world to unleash the full potential of Macao higher education.
As you engage in insightful discussions, networking sessions and knowledge sharing during this summit, we encourage you to explore the vibrant city of Macau and immerse yourself in its rich cultural heritage. About Macau University of Science and Technology
Mission and vision
Founded in 2000, Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) has rapidly developed into the largest multidisciplinary university in Macao. With equal importance to teaching and research, MUST endeavours to educate students in various specialist fields by focusing on the quality of programmes and pursuing excellence.
It is ranked in the top 300 in the THE World University Rankings (2020-24), equal 58th in the THE Asia University Rankings (2024) and equal 38th in the THE Young University Rankings (2024). In 2022, MUST became the first university in Macao to receive full institutional accreditation from the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education.
MUST adheres to its mission “to promote cultural exchange, nurture intellectual growth, foster economic development, and further societal progress”.
Faculties and programmes
The university awards degrees at doctoral, master’s and bachelor levels, with some programmes in Portuguese or Spanish. There are over 21,000 students enrolled at the university. MUST provides a range of courses including social science, science, engineering, law, management, business, medicine, pharmacy, tourism, art, communication and language.
Faculty members and research development
MUST has about 1,000 professorial staff, with many academic and research staff having either worked or studied in world-renowned institutions and universities.
Currently, MUST owns three state-level research platforms that focus on: Chinese medicine; lunar and planetary sciences; and coastal ecology environments. Through teaching and research, they provide practical training opportunities for outstanding research talents and contributing to research into sustainable development and economic diversification in Macao.
MUST scientists designed and launched on 21 May 2023 MSS-1, the world’s first satellite to carry out high-precision measurements of the Earth’s magnetic field in lower latitudes, earning them a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping.
Campus life and facilities
MUST has a beautiful campus and several modern teaching buildings, well-established laboratories and a rich collection of library resources. It advocates a harmonious, professional and caring campus that enables students to achieve all-round development and personal fulfilment. MUST has set up a mentor scheme to assist students in coping with problems in their studies and life, and has pioneered an innovative We-Must smart campus platform that integrates research, teaching, administration and student life.
Academic exchange and international cooperation
MUST has established multiple partnerships with over 200 institutions and has become a member of the Association of the Universities of Asia and the Pacific, the International Association of Universities and the Association of Portuguese Language Universities. It became a partner of THE’s Campus+ in 2022 and continues to contribute to the platform regularly.
MUST encourages students to engage in overseas exchange programmes and supports students in pursuing further studies or employment overseas in various ways.
Looking ahead, MUST will continue to attach equal importance to teaching and research, attract talents from all fields, adhere to its core values of quality and innovation and continue to improve through excellent education and outstanding research, and serve society by fulfilling its mission.
