Internationalisation drives institutions to open their doors wider to welcome international students and form global alliances. Universities attract talent and cultivate a cross-cultural exchange that helps graduates thrive in an interconnected world.
Universities must align curricula with industry needs and provide their graduates with practical skills, making them employable and boosting economic growth to address the employability and skills gap.
By upholding values of empathy, integrity and honesty, and through the cultivation of ethical leaders and compassionate citizens, universities cement their role in shaping a future that is academically brilliant, socially conscious and responsible.
The THE Asia Universities Summit 2024 bridged frontiers to reimagine the evolving landscape of education in Asia.
The summit featured the exclusive live reveal of the THE Asia University Rankings 2024, accompanied by a detailed masterclass to explore the latest data and identify the best-performing institutions in the region.
The summit also hosted the THE Awards Asia 2024 winners ceremony. Now in their sixth year, the awards offer a major international platform to recognise outstanding leadership and institutional performance, and to celebrate the continent's higher education excellence in all its diversity.
Agenda themes
Day 1
Transnational education: Building bridges across countries and campuses
By strategically setting up campuses in different Asian countries, universities aim to cater for the growing demand for quality education, attract international students and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas. This expansion enhances the reputation and influence of these institutions and contributes to the development of educational hubs that promote regional collaboration and economic growth.
Day 2
Employability and skills gap: Building bridges with industry
The disparity between what graduates bring to the table and what industries demand is a challenge that cannot be ignored. To equip the next generation of graduates with relevant skills and knowledge, these sessions explored strategies that build bridges between academia and industry, narrow the skills gap, increase employability and reduce unemployment rates across the region, and empower graduates to become “job creators” rather than “job seekers”.
Day 3
Communities and authorities: Building bridges with society
It has become imperative for institutions to forge strong connections with society, local communities and governmental bodies. These sessions emphasised the need for strategic engagement and delve into the challenges and opportunities facing universities in Asia. We explored the delicate balance between governance and autonomy, the significance of academic freedom, the role of universities as catalysts for social change and the creation of a value-centric campus culture.
