Greetings from Fujita Health University
I am very proud that Fujita Health University is going to be the first Japanese host of the Times Higher Education Asia Universities Summit.
Since the university was founded, our philosophy has been “Our creativity for the people”, which means we encourage the creativity of each individual. We continue to advance clinical practice, develop human resources to contribute to society, and carry out research to make the world a better place.
Our academic programmes and research facilities correspond to the needs and challenges of society in the fields of medicine, healthcare, health, hygiene and healthcare management. We also collaborate with the world’s leading academic institutions and industries in order to advance medicine and medical technology. Our partners include Johns Hopkins University, University of Münster, National Taiwan University, United Arab Emirates University, Toyota Motor Corporation, Canon and telecoms company NTT, among others.
By hosting the THE Asia Universities Summit 2021, we hope to create new encounters with leaders in different fields of education and research as well as medicine and medical fields. I hope that it will bring innovation not only to Fujita Health University, but also to higher education nationally in Japan. I am truly delighted to meet people we know and people we will get to know at the summit.

About Fujita Health University
Fujita Health University is located in the southern part of Nagoya, the fourth-largest city in Japan. It is a medical university that seeks to educate “good health care providers” with a focus on team medical care. Since its foundation, its philosophy has been “Our creativity for the people”. The university has about 3,300 students including 2,068 undergraduate students, 319 graduate students and 120 technical college students, and more than 30,000 have graduated so far. Currently, the university offers eight undergraduate degrees, two master’s degrees and two doctoral degree programmes.
This year is the university’s 50th anniversary. With excellent faculties, start-of-the-art facilities and three educational hospitals where training and internship opportunities are available, the university educates medical personnel in a wide range of specialisations including doctors, clinical technologists, nurses, public health nurses, radiological technologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, clinical engineers and health information managers.
At Fujita Health University Hospital, whose motto is “patient-centred medical care”, students can acquire qualifications essential for healthcare providers who can see things from the patient’s standpoint and remain close to the patients in spirit.
Furthermore, the university aims to develop unique medical science and clinical research centred on the Institute for Comprehensive Medical Science, as we believe that high-quality medical research provides the basis for high-quality medical education. It is believed that there is no other private medical university in the nation with so many full-time researchers working on advanced research. As proof of the accomplished research, in the THE World University Rankings 2019, we are ranked seventh in Japan and in the 401-500 range in the world. We maintained the position of highest-ranked private Japanese university for a second consecutive year.
With the goal of being recognised as one of the top universities in Japan, we are not only pushing forward in education, research and clinical practice, but also contributing to local society and showing a commitment to the international community.
