    Agile universities for an uncertain era: Advancing Arab higher education

    4–5 December 2024

    The THE Arab Universities Summit 2024 focused on the leading role of higher education institutions in supporting the future development of societies across the region.

    The summit convened thought leaders and strategists from higher education, government and industry to discuss how the economic, societal and environmental challenges facing Arab countries can be addressed through the output of greater applicable research, new technologies and innovations, and increased equity and access for learners.

    Through keynotes, panel discussions and case studies, we identified how cross-sector partnerships, enhanced skills provision and greater cultural diversity can ensure that the higher education sector is equipped to drive profound educational transformation and support the progress of local and regional communities.

    The summit saw the exclusive reveal of the THE Arab University Rankings 2024, accompanied by an exclusive data masterclass featuring detailed analysis and insights from THE's data team to explore the key findings, trends and stories from the data.


    The summit also featured a gala dinner announcing the THE Awards Arab World 2024 winners. The awards celebrate the very best stories in higher education and are an exciting opportunity to showcase the inspirational work taking place at institutions in the region.

    Agenda themes

    Addressing regional challenges through the application of research and innovation

    How can universities implement frameworks that support research capacity and output? The vital role of funding, industry partnerships and the need for research to be applicable to regional challenges will be addressed, with a focus on agriculture, health and tech.

    Enhancing employability through vocational skills and collaboration

    Can higher education bridge the gap between graduates' skills and industry requirements, to enhance employability among the youth population? New technologies that enhance teaching and learning provisions will be examined, as well as the need for cross-sector collaboration to develop the future workforce.

    Broadening equity and access through partnerships and community engagement

    What are the responsibilities of universities as drivers of sustainable community development? We will focus on how institutions can ensure that higher education in the region remains accessible and equitable, with a specific focus on supporting refugee access.
